Well, we got the results back from my daughter’s EEG. As I mentioned last week, we took Ruby in for her second brain scan recently, and it was not a fun appointment for us. It appeared to us that her seizure condition had not gone away, but they would not tell us anything at the appointment. Instead, they sent the scans off to the doctor who was then going to contact us with what he saw. And he finally did contact us.
What he told us was that the scan showed that Ruby had not had any seizures during the test, however the scan also showed brain activity consistent with the epilepsy and so we should not try to wean her off of the medicine. This was confusing to us, because during the test, specifically when she was blowing on the pinwheel, she was definitely out of it and totally non-responsive, although admittedly what happened that day was not like any of her seizures that we had experienced in the past. But there was definitely something going on. We said this to the doctor and he decided to have the professional brain wave readers read the scan again.
Yesterday we got another call, and he told us that it is completely confirmed that there were no seizures during the test. So…..good news! But also that her brain has not grown out of the condition, at least not yet, so we continue with the meds for the foreseeable future. Not great news, but not really horrible news either. And I suppose that, thinking back, perhaps she could have just been confused and woozy from the hyperventilation itself during the pinwheel section, and not actually having seizures. Apparently I am not a medical doctor. Who knew?
So no funny stories or uninformed opinions today, just a quick health update for those of you who were concerned. She’s doing fine. We’re doing fine. And many of my own concerns may just come from my over-active imagination, or maybe because I am a parent. Either way, I don’t think I am going to stop worrying any time soon, but I guess everybody else can relax.
