Ruby is very excited. She, like me, is not a morning person, and yet she woke up long before anyone else today. Edward, our human alarm clock, is still sleeping (probably because he was up at 2, trying to climb into Ruby’s bed in the hopes that this mid-night act would cause Santa to arrive and bring him presents). Everyone is tired and bleary-eyed, except for my daughter. It is like Bizarro world.
“It’s my third favorite day of the year!” she exclaimed cheerily. So obviously I needed the ranking.
1st Place: Her Birthday
2nd Place: Christmas
3rd Place: Christmas Eve
4th Place: New Year’s Eve
5th Place: Valentine’s Day
6th Place: Halloween
I didn’t get info on anything further than sixth place, so I can’t tell you specifically where Easter, the first day of school, the last day of school, the 4th of July, and other exciting days rank. Although, knowing my daughter, she probably has them all sorted. All 365 of them. Actually, I’ll bet a lot of them are ties. Like playdate days, and friends’ birthday parties, and boring days where we do nothing fun. I’ll bet a lot of those days are tied.
Either way, today is a good one. We get to eat bacon. We get to go on our annual CESH (Christmas Even Scavenger Hunt). We get to have some presents and special food. We get to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol. We get to go to church and light candles and sing. We get to go to bed, knowing that the next morning will bring presents from Santa! Yeah, it’s a good day.
I just hope we don’t see any fake Santas out and about today. Because, as Edward told me yesterday, “If I see a fake Santa, I will smash him. With my hands.”
