We all wear clothes, and all clothes wear out. This is an inevitable fact of life. And there are some articles of clothing that we don’t mind tossing out so much when we see the little tears, the fading colors, or the thinning threads. But then there are other items, our favorite items, that seem to wear out far too quickly for our liking. And this is because we are far more likely to choose our favorite stuff to wear when we get dressed in the morning. More usage means faster wearing out. It’s not rocket science. But how can we get our favorites to last longer? We obviously have little-to-no self control, so just trying not to pick out the best stuff every time doesn’t really work.
Luckily for you I have solved this problem for you, and all it takes is you doing something you were probably going to do anyway! Yes, I can get your favorite clothes to last months, if not years, longer by doing one ridiculously simple thing: fall behind in your laundry.
I know, I know, it may be difficult for you to imagine that laundry basket overflowing with clothes, the washing left undone for another day, but trust me, it will be worth it when you get to look so good all the time. You see, when all of your clothes are clean and put away, you will of course choose your favorite items to wear every time. You don’t even know you are doing it! It is psychological and stuff. So you wear the clothes, and you throw them into the bottom of the now empty laundry basket. That was easy. You didn’t even have to think about it.
Okay, but here is the most important step: don’t do the laundry. Seriously. Just let it sit there a few days longer than you should. Wait until you just have to do the laundry or else risk showing up to work naked the next day. By this time you should have amassed a large enough laundry pile that you will never be able to do it all in one day. Maybe you do half of it. Maybe 3/4 of it. Maybe you get it all done except for that one final load, sitting there in the bottom of the basket. Hey, remember that?! That is where your favorite clothes are! And sure, you will mean to get to the rest of the laundry the next day, but then at night you take off more clothes and throw them on top of the pile, and before you know it the cycle has repeated itself. You can go through several weeks of this without ever actually finishing all of your laundry. It is awesome.
So finally you will have a whole Saturday off, or you will have two days in a row to devote to laundry, and you will have time to wash everything. This means your favorite clothes will be back in the rotation. But unlike the rest of your crummy stuff that has been worn and washed three or four times each in that same period, your favorites have only been used and abused one time! And as an added bonus, you have completely forgotten that you even owned these articles of clothing, so you will be super excited to see them again! “I was wondering where that had gotten to!” you will say with glee. And so you will wear them the next day, happy and fulfilled and looking good. And at the end of the day you will throw them into the bottom of the empty laundry basket. And then all you have to do is repeat the cycle all over again. It’s a perfect system, and all you have to do is suck at housework. What could be more natural!?
