Posting all of those videos last week made me think of the first mildly successful video I ever posted. It was back in 2007 or 2008 and I was trying to learn the role of Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte. The problem was, Ruby did not enjoy my singing, She was a little baby, and ever time I sang out in an operatic style, she would start screaming almost immediately. And it wasn’t just me! Even playing a recording of opera music would set her off.
I tried to explain to my colleagues and professors that it was impossible to learn music at home, due to the wailing banshee that I had sired, but they didn’t fully believe me. So I made a video, and posted it on youtube. Then they believed me.
My friends thought this was funny enough to show around, and one day I was randomly recognized on the street as ‘That Guy from “Ruby Hates Opera”‘ by a total stranger. That was weird.
I had thought that maybe I would make a similar video for Edward, except that he loves when I sing opera. I guess I could do an “Edward Loves Opera” video at some point, but that doesn’t seem quite as funny for some reason. So here I am left, once again, with something that is uniquely Ruby’s, and I love it.

Dude – it’s like the dog ate my homework equivalent! But true!
