So here I am feeling like I’m at the end of this Gianni Schicchi production, when the maestro announces last evening that we are over the hump. 5 shows down, 4 to go. Wait a minute! 4 to go? 2 days from now I’m going to be hanging out with my family! How can there be 4 to go!?
I have just done the math. I will be performing Gianni Schicchi approximately once every ten hours this weekend. The show at 8 tonight, the two shows tomorrow, and the matinee at 3 on Sunday. Suddenly that seems like a lot. I am tired. I have more La Rondine to learn. And I’m not ready for it to be over. By the time I post my next blog on Monday, I will have sung 4 shows, had a cast party, taken all my stuff out of the dressing room, and will be with my family, starting our weeklong journey back to Vermont. This will kick off my new blog series entitled: Tenor Dad On the Road with Kids, or T-DORK.
I’ve had a good time in St. Pete, but whoever thought it was a good idea to schedule 4 shows over 43 hours is in big trouble. How am I supposed to watch television with that kind of schedule? How can I learn music that I technically should have learned a month ago! I need my beauty sleep!
So I am excited about family time again, but for now I have to go sing my throat off. Tune in next time for T-DORK: The Long Road to Orlando.
