And so it begins. A 1500 mile car trip in a car containing a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old. I cannot remember at what point I thought this was a good idea, and if blogs this week seem garbled, nonsensical, and/or on the verge of madness, well then it’s just another regular old week here at tenordad.com.
We decided to begin our trip home today by not going anywhere. This seemed like a very good idea, since we were all tired and cranky, some of us from singing over 1000 opera performances this past weekend, and some of us from flying on a plane with two small children. Tomorrow seems like a much better day to start any large undertaking, and so in that spirit, we went to the beach.
A good time was had by all, as Ruby spent the day splashing in the waves and collecting shells, while I spent the day lying face down in the wet sand and collecting sunburns. It was as this point I realized that my hair looked terrible, so I decided to get my haircut. Note to readers with possible bad hair: You can be assured that your hair looks terrible when you are told by up to 2/3 or your family that, and I quote, “Your hair looks terrible.”
The rest of the day was a whirlwind of activity! We ate Mexican food, I got a haircut, we ate ice cream, we swam in a pool, we ate spaghetti! It really was too exciting to put into words. We ended the day zero miles into our journey, which we all felt pretty proud of, although I think we can do better tomorrow. Tomorrow we are going to Walt Disney World, home to such celebrities as Mickey Mouse, Rapunzel, and Johnny Depp, and I can’t be certain at this point, but I feel like somehow, in some way, there will be a story worth telling at the end of the day. Tune in tomorrow for day two of our weeklong TDORK series. Or else.
