So I was checking the weather the other day, trying to decide if it was going to be warm enough to head over to the swimming hole, when an advertisement caught my eye. Now, unlike other forms of ads, I have no problem with looking at some product placement if it means I get to use a free service, such as weather.com. This ad, though, was disturbing. It was an ad for loweryourbills.com, and it told me that Vermont homeowners can, I guess, lower their bills (.com), and gave some info about the service. What caught my eye though, was this terrifying looking picture that accompanied the ad. Here is what it looked like:
I don’t know if that is going to sell any insurance to anybody else out there, but not only does that poor distorted woman look like she is in both severe physical and psychological pain, but she also makes me uncomfortable, so I clicked away to another page. Such was my revulsion at this image. Of course now I am posting it on my blog, but it’s okay, I’ve gotten used to it by now.
Anyway, the image stuck in my mind for another few moments, as I tried to figure out why they would post such a weird looking angry person (who may or may not be singing opera) in all of their ads. Obviously they saw that I had put in my zip code to get the weather report and just inserted “Vermont” into the ad to target it to me, so I assumed that all of the many people looking for weather would get this same image. But then I went back to the home page, zip-code free, and saw this:
What!? Hold on a second! So apparently, people in Vermont look like the first picture, and people in California look like the second picture!? Sadly, this is true. And that, my friends, is the difference between Vermonters and Californians.

You should see the people in Maine!
