Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels, right? Wrong! I am on a quest to lose weight, thanks to some frightening urging by my doctor, some unintentional insulting by my children, and some good-natured competition with my friends. Since I was told I needed to lose some major poundage about a year and a half ago I have lost nearly 30 pounds. Since I started this weight loss “game” with my friends about a month ago, I have lost around 12 of that. I am doing well. I am not eating “junk food” and I am losing weight.
Losing weight feels good. Having people say you look good feels good. Looking in the mirror and being pleased with what you see feels good. Dropping pants sizes feels good. But over the weekend I ate some non-approved diet foods, and they were amazing. And then I weighed in and I was back up a few pounds. I was sad to be up a few pounds. But oh man, no weight loss can ever feel as good as some food tastes. I don’t regret it. I would give up many pounds for just one of the items on this list:
- Coca-Cola
- Anything from Five Guys
- Junior Mints
- Mozzarella Sticks
- Nachos with extra cheese
- Pizza
- Bacon (all the bacon)
- Ben & Jerry’s (pretty much any flavor)
- Little Debbie Fudge Rounds
- Creemees
- Cotton Candy
- Fruity Pebbles
- Friendlys’ Butterfinger Sundae
- Chalupas
- Processed Meat
- Onion Rings
- Ranch Dressing
- Blue Cheese Dressing
- Parmesan Peppercorn Dressing
- General Tso’s Chicken
- Brown Sugar & Cinnamon Pop Tarts
- Maple Syrup (straight up)
- Sausage Egg McMuffins
- McDonalds’ Hot Mustard Sauce
- Cheetos
- Queso
- Marshmallow Krispie Oreos
- Costco Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Costco Chocolate Chip Muffins
- Jelly Donuts
- Boston Creme Donuts
- All Donuts
- Pie
- Frosting out of the can (straight up)
- Bacon Cheeseburgers
- Chili Dogs
- Chewy Chips Ahoy (dipped in leftover frosting from the can that I ate earlier)
- Bugles
- Everlasting Gobstoppers
- Twix
- Rock Candy
- Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches
So I will keep losing weight I guess. Because it is good for me, and because I want my son to stop saying “Daddy, someday I will be as fat as you!” And it does feel good. But it sure doesn’t feel as good as all of that tastes. Which is, I guess, how I ended up here in the first place.
