STEP ONE: Find out about the audition
This is the easy. but very important, first step. This crucial part of the process is when your agent calls you to tell you that you have an audition scheduled, or when you see an audition on YAPTracker and send in your form. Your audition date is set. You are ready to move on to step two.
STEP TWO: Forget about the audition
This is the part of the process in which you mean to start getting everything prepared for your audition, but then you have to go to work, and you have some sort of family function, and your e-mail inbox is so backed up that the reminder e-mail you sent yourself gets pushed three pages back, and before you know it the audition is almost upon you, and you have not done anything that you should have done to get ready. Luckily, in this step you are blissfully ignorant.
STEP THREE: Remember the audition
Finally you see that e-mail reminder you sent yourself, or get a new e-mail confirming your audition the next day, or get a call from your agent asking what time you will be getting to the city.
STEP FOUR: Freak out about the audition
ACK! What?! I have an audition tomorrow?! In New York?! I probably should have gotten off from work, or arranged some sort of childcare for my children! And I swore that I would get my suit drycleaned after my last audition, and how am I out of headshots, and where am I going to sleep tonight, and why am I the worst at life?! Maybe I should run through my audition arias… Maybe I should choose my audition arias! Maybe I should cancel it…
STEP FIVE: Prepare for the audition
This is the stage in which you run around the house frantically throwing things into a bag while furiously making phone calls. Your aria is blasting out of your iTunes as you try to remember how to pronounce that one word, while simultaneously doing lip trills and vocal exercises that can be heard from three blocks away. But at last you are on your way, praying that you have everything you need in your bag, and ready to sing a great audition and get hired! You can do it! Toi, toi, toi!
