The Healing Power of Bacon – TDORK Heading North

We are halfway home.  Having started our journey of 1500 miles in the town of Seminole, FL, we ended our day today in Washington, DC; a total of 970 miles, 586 of which were driven in the last 12 hours.  That leaves us about 530 miles to go, which we will get to on Sunday, after a few days of hanging out in DC and Baltimore.
We started our day off in Savannah, GA at a place called “The Breakfast Place.”  It was like a greasy slice of heaven, let me tell you.  Whenever I am in the south, which is never, I always try and find some biscuits and gravy, and these did not disappoint.  I was worried about Ruby’s health, because she had been coughing like crazy for the past three days and may or may not have had a fever at some point (Who can tell?  It was hot at Disney World!), and she did not want to eat any breakfast.  But let me tell you, one bite of that bacon and she was instantly cured.  She gobbled up her breakfast and was feeling great from then on.  Even Edward had some of the miracle bacon, which greatly improved his mood.
That was the high point of our day.  Do you remember when I told you about my trip to “South of the Border,” and I posited that it would perhaps be more fun with a 4-year-old and/or someone to laugh at it with?  Well, it turns out that I was wrong.  It is not fun at all, in any way shape or form.  It is a sad, depressing place, filled with lonely people and cheaply made junk.  Needless to say, Ruby loved it and had a great time.  I just felt like giving up on humanity.  Here is an example of some of the fine items available for sale.  Please note the banner on the front of the packages.
The rest of the day was spent in traffic, near traffic, or avoiding traffic.  The trip took exactly as long as Google said it would, which was way longer than I had anticipated, and we arrived on the late side of bedtime at our friends’ house here in DC.  After a drive like that, we need a couple of days to not be in the car, which we shall have.  I wish more funny things had happened to us today so I could tell you about them, but mostly I spent the day staring at the bumper in front of me, wishing for a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or a Flubber-mobile.  Thus ends this segment of Tenor Dad: On the Road with Kids – Heading North.  Tune in Monday for the final installment, where you get to find out if we all made it home, and which one of us had to ride on the roof after blowing that damn trumpet they got at South of the Border one too many times.
