If our house ever caught fire, the first thing I would do is make sure that my family was out of the house and safe. The second thing I would do is to make sure that Bear was out of the house and safe. Forget family photos and important documents. Those things can all be replaced or fondly recalled, but there is no way that any of us would survive without Bear. I suppose he might use his magic to get himself safely out, but I am not taking that chance.
As you may or may not know, Bear (short for Daddy Bear) is a magical bear that belongs to my daughter. His magic is pretty powerful. He once bought a giant flatscreen television for $30 from Lightbulb Land and installed it in our house overnight. And he is always popping up in unexpected places. Bear recently celebrated his sixth birthday, and he has a brother (Uncle Bear) that belongs to my son, who had to have an identical bear once he saw how much his sister loved hers. Bear did have some trouble recently finding a certain toy, but you will be pleased to know that he eventually succeeded, just in the nick of time. And so knowing that we have these magical creatures in our house, you may be wondering where to get one for yourself, and the answer is an equally magical place called Kids City.
Kids City is a local shop, over at 10 Farrell Street in South Burlington, and it is awesome. It used to be called Kids Town, but it just couldn’t be contained in something as small as a town. No, it is a city now. They have pretty much everything, from toys and games of course, to kids’ furniture, shoes, and weird imported stuff from Europe that is way better than the American stuff from China. But most importantly of all, they have magical bears.
Daddy Bear was purchased there by my wife’s sister and her husband as a baptism present for my daughter, and when my son kept trying to steal him away, we purchased Uncle Bear there as well. But not to worry; there are more on the shelves. And I’m pretty sure the magic comes standard.
So anyway, this is a pretty important place for our family, as I’m sure you can see, and when I was thinking of local businesses that I wanted to highlight to you all, Kids City was the first one that came to mind. After partnering with The Hairy Bear in August, I talked to Kids City about maybe writing something nice about them, since we go there as often as possible, and they thought it sounded like a fine idea. In fact, they even offered to raffle off a $25 gift card, which I thought was super nice of them.
So here is how this works. At the bottom of this post is a little widget. All you have to do to be entered into the raffle is to like “Tenor Dad” and “Kids City” on Facebook, and tell the widget about it. It’s that simple! And if you follow my new twitter handle, I’ll give you an extra entry. And you could win a $25 gift card to Kids City, which you can spend on a magical bear, or Legos, or puppets, or sneakers, or bunk beds, or whatever else you want! So enter away, tell your friends, and good luck to all of you! The winner will be announced next weekend on the Tenor Dad Facebook page.

I entered as a fan of Tenor Dad’s blog… and I know just the right recipient of the gift certificate should I be the winner! 🙂
