So it’s finally happened. You’ve had children and now they want to watch television. But what to watch?! There are so many kids’ shows out there these days, and if you go in blind you might accidentally end up watching (shudder) Caillou. No, this is your first chance to guide your children’s pop culture preferences, and you want them to like things that won’t cause you to stab your eyes out every time they come on. Luckily, most shows are just a combination of other shows that people have previously loved. You can use these simple formulas to figure out what you should force your child to enjoy.
Do you love Disney fairy tale action with a modern twist? Do you wish it could be slightly gross and more like some of those classic Nicktoons, such as Ren & Stimpy? Well then you are in luck! The 7D is a mildly weird and gross show starring lovable Disney characters in their fairy tale setting, including castles, dragons, magic, and a lot of boogers!
Let’s say that you enjoy medical dramas centered around female doctors, but you also wish that they would include more toys coming to life. Never fear! Your search is over! You have found Doc McStuffins! She’s gonna make you feel better.
At it’s heart, The Wire was really a show about a neighborhood. The big neighborhood of Baltimore. Every season the characters would go around and meet different people who worked and lived there. They had fun adventures with the dockworkers, the city government, the school system, the print media, and many others! But perhaps you wish it had been slightly more wholesome, and with more make-believe puppet characters? Problem solved. Just watch Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Also, I have never seen The Wire…
I hope these formulas have helped you choose the appropriate show for your kids. If your favorite show was not on the list, sound off in the comments and I will try to match the new show for the youngsters with your favorite show of old!
