Okay, look, I know that we had a few late night flurries last week, and I know that it is not technically winter yet, but my children did not see that snow, and as far as they are concerned, if it’s snowing, it’s winter. So let us start with the baseline assumption that, according to my children, it has not snowed yet this season, and that once the snow comes, that means Christmas is pretty much tomorrow. Which brings us to last night.
I was having a bad day yesterday. It didn’t start well, which is a story I will not tell you about, and then it was all downhill from there. When it was time to take Edward to Taekwan-Do, things were getting bleak. I had no choice but to purchase the new Pentatonix Christmas album and playing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” at top volume in a last ditch effort to bring some sort of cheer to the day. As my my iPod shuffled the album around, we suddenly heard the soft beginning strains of the bonus track, which was truly an unexpected bonus.
Just as they began to sing The snow glows white on the mountain tonight… I looked out the car windshield (you know, because I was driving) and saw a snowflake fly by. “Kids!” I said excitedly. “It’s snowing!”
“No it’s not!” they replied in annoyance. “I don’t see any snow!”
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know…
“Keep looking, I saw another snowflake!”
It’s funny how some distance makes everything seem small…
“I don’t see anything!” they insisted. But they would. I saw two in a row, and then another, and another. It would be snowing for real any second now.
I am one with the wind and sky…
“Daddy, I saw one! Edward, I saw one!” Ruby started shrieking like it was Christmas morning, waving and pointing at a level that required ducking and covering. And then, just as the song reached its fevered crescendo of a bridge, he saw it.
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around…
“I SEE IT! I SEE IT!”
LET IT GOOOOOO! LET IT GOOOOOO! AND I’LL RISE LIKE THE BREAK OF DAWN!
“It’s snowing! Ha ha ha ha haaaaaa! It’s snowing!”
LET IT GOOOOOO! LET IT GOOOOOO!
“Look at the headlights! You can see it in the headlights!”
Let the storm ray JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHN!
“Daddy, tomorrow is CHRISTMAS!”
The cold never bothered me anyway
“No, tomorrow is not Christmas. But Thanksgiving is only two weeks away! And then we can start getting ready for Christmas!”
“Hooray!”
And we spent the rest of the ride listening to “Winter Wonderland” and singing “Jingle Bells,” excited for the snow, and looking forward to anticipated magic. But really, that car ride contained all of the magic that you could ever need. Happy winter, everyone!

When kids get so excited over such things, it can be uplifting. Love the positive energy they give off.
Great photon you have here.
Thanks! It definitely improved my day greatly!
